Notes

1 Acceptable image formats - GIF, JPG or PNG. Animation allowed, max 3 loops or 1 minute (whichever is the shorter).

2 Creative must function uniformly in versions 7-9 and consume at most 20% of CPU resource on an average system. Must support the 'clickTag' method of click counting [What's this?]. Backup image required for readers without Flash Player. All audio must be user initiated on_click. A clear on/off or mute button must be present (initially off).

3 The Register works with all the major 3rd party ad serving vendors, including but not limited to: Doubleclick, Atlas, Mediaplex, TangoZebra, Eyeblaster, EyeWonder, PointRoll, FlashTalking. The Register uses Dart for Publishers so if you use DFA, please supply us with internal redirects. If you are not a DFA user please supply us with script tags or image redirects as appropriate (please don't supply Iframe tags, as they can cause unpredicatable rendering issues in Firefox).

4 Additional files (.SWF or .FLA) must either load 'politely' (when the hosting page has fully loaded), or on user interaction (on_mouseover/on_click).

5 If expansion is on_mouseover, collapse must be on_mouseout. on_mouseover expansion is not permitted on The Register homepage, or as part of a sponsorship package. An obvious close or collapse button is required if expansion is on_click.

6 As part of a Homepage Takeover or Sponsorship Package the page's masthead colour will be altered to compliment the ad units. To do this, we require the Hex value of the desired colour. For example #FF0000 is 'The Register Red'.

7 As part of a Register Hardware Sponsorship Package, the page's background will be altered to complement the ad units. To do this we require either; two Hex colours (lightest and darkest to create a fade) or a tilable GIF / PNG / JPG image of any dimensions up to a maximum of 300w x 300h, max weight of 20K, no animation.

Additional Notes

Borders — Creative with a predominantly white or near white background colour must have a 1-point black border on all sides, to delineate them from the underlying page.

Testing — The Register's readers use a variety of browsers. All creative should function uniformly in Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera and Safari, unless otherwise noted.

Brand Surveys — Subject to approval and inventory availability, The Register may agree to run control/exposed brand survey recruitment overlays from Dynamic Logic or others as part of a campaign free of charge. In this case, the minimum campaign spend must exceed £15,000 or $30,000 and the volume of these ads will be capped at 5% of the value of the campaign, at rate card overlay rates.

All creative are subject to approval. The Register reserves the right to reject ads arbitrarily.
